BIGFOOT IN CONNECTICUT

VOLUNTOWN, Conn. (WTIC/CNN Newsource /WKRC) — A reported Bigfoot sighting in rural Connecticut is generating buzz after a national research organization deemed the eyewitness account credible, though many local residents remain unconvinced.

The Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization (BFRO) said the sighting occurred during the early morning hours of July 5 near Pachaug State Forest, Connecticut's largest state forest.

According to the organization, the witness provided such a detailed description that investigators gave the report their highest level of credibility.

Despite that assessment, neighbors interviewed by WTIC expressed skepticism.

"Anything's possible these days, but, you know, I have never seen a Bigfoot," resident Peter Gautieri said.

Another nearby resident, who asked not to be identified, suggested shadows, fatigue and darkness can play tricks on people's perception.

"We live in a society with cameras and recording devices and sensors everywhere," the resident said. "To say that something is escaping everyone nationwide "

Still, some longtime residents say the dense woods of Pachaug State Forest, which spans more than 26,000 acres, would be as likely a place as any if Bigfoot exists.

"Every once in a while, if it's really quiet and still, you'll hear like a branch pop in the distance," resident Richard Fedor said. "It makes you wonder."

THE MYSTERY OF THE MINNESOTA ICEMAN

The Minnesota Iceman is a sideshow exhibit and elaborate hoax that depicts a fake man-like creature frozen in a block of ice. It was displayed at shopping malls, state fairs, and carnivals in the United States and Canada in the 1960s and early 1970s and promoted as the "missing link" between Homo sapiens and Neanderthals. It was sold on eBay in 2013 and put on display in Austin, Texas.

The creature has been described as male, human-like, 6 ft (~1.8 m) tall, hairy, with large hands and feet, very dark brown hair about 3 - 4 inches (~9 cm) long, and a flattened nose. One of its arms appeared to be broken and one of its eyes appeared to have been knocked out of its socket, allegedly by a bullet that was said to have entered the creature's head from behind. After investigating, scientists from the Smithsonian Institution determined that it was likely to be a hoax.

Promoter and exhibitor Frank Hansen stated the Minnesota Iceman was discovered in the region of Siberia and that he was acting as its caretaker for an absentee owner he described as an "eccentric California millionaire". Touring carnivals and fairs with the exhibit, Hansen was once reportedly detained by Canada Customs officials, who were concerned he was transporting a human cadaver. The FBI was informed that the subject might potentially be a human murder victim, but the agency did not investigate, possibly due to many believing it was a hoax.

Sanderson, then science editor for Argosy magazine, authored an article about the Iceman in the April 1969 issue that featured the headline "Is this the missing link between man and the apes?" Sanderson also spoke about the Iceman in television appearances, and contacted primatologist John Napier, asking him to investigate it under the official auspices of Smithsonian Institution. Hansen subsequently withdrew the Minnesota Iceman from public inspection, saying the withdrawal was on orders from its California-based owner. Hansen later provided a new "Iceman" for exhibit, described by observers as a latex model that was clearly different from the original.

Napier, in conjunction with the Smithsonian, made preliminary investigations of Hansen's affairs and said he found that Hansen had commissioned the creation of the Iceman from a West Coast company in 1967, leading Napier to quickly conclude there was only ever one Iceman latex model that he theorized was repositioned and refrozen between appearances. Napier stated that "The Smithsonian Institution…is satisfied that the creature is simply a carnival exhibit made of latex rubber and hair...the 'original' model and the present so-called 'substitute' are one and the same."

In February 2013, the Minnesota Iceman was reportedly auctioned on eBay. The listing read: "This is the actual sideshow gaff billed as 'The Minnesota Iceman' by Frank Hansen in the 1960s. This is a one of a kind hoax that was fabricated by a mid-20th century showman."It was purchased by Austin, Texas, "Museum of the Weird" owner Steve Busti, who has placed it on public display...

ALIENS AND BIGFOOT

For as long as people have shared stories around campfires, two mysterious figures have captured our imaginations more than almost any others: aliens—those enigmatic visitors from the skies—and Bigfoot, the shadowy giant said to roam remote forests around the world. Each legend stands strong on its own, but in recent years a compelling theory has emerged: that these two mysteries may actually be connected. This idea has grown from scattered witness accounts, overlapping sightings, and the enduring human fascination with the unknown.

While Bigfoot is often associated with deep forests, towering trees, and muddy footprints, UFO sightings tend to involve wide skies, strange lights, and sudden disappearances. Yet strangely, the two phenomena sometimes appear together in ways that are hard to ignore. Across various regions, witnesses have described seeing unusual lights in the sky shortly before or after encountering a large, hairy figure moving through the woods. In some stories, glowing orbs drift silently overhead as if tracking or interacting with something on the ground. In others, people claim they witnessed Bigfoot-like creatures at the same moment a craft hovered above the treeline. To believers, these cases suggest a pattern. If these two mysteries cross paths often enough, perhaps they are not separate after all.

One of the most puzzling aspects of Bigfoot research is the creature’s knack for disappearing. Investigators often follow long trails of massive footprints only to have them stop abruptly—no turn-around marks, no fading into underbrush, no reasonable explanation. The creature simply vanishes, as if pulled from the world mid-stride. This strange phenomenon has fueled speculation that Bigfoot may possess abilities beyond the natural world. Alien-theory supporters propose that if extraterrestrials have mastered technology that bends space, dimensions, or time, then the sudden disappearance of a creature under their control becomes easier to imagine. Under this idea, Bigfoot is not slipping away through the forest but being retrieved through advanced means humans cannot yet understand.

Another perspective gaining attention is the interdimensional hypothesis, which suggests that both aliens and Bigfoot are visitors from parallel realms rather than distant planets or remote wildernesses. According to this idea, both phenomena represent beings who occasionally cross into our world through natural or artificially created portals. Bigfoot, then, is not hiding from humans—it simply isn’t here most of the time. The creature’s brief, startling appearances in our world could be the result of momentary overlaps between dimensions. UFOs, under the same logic, are not traditional spacecraft but vehicles capable of crossing those dimensional boundaries. If both are travelers between worlds, their occasional correlation becomes far less mysterious.

There is also a biological angle to the conversation. Some theorists suggest that Bigfoot may be a kind of extraterrestrial lifeform, intentionally or accidentally released on Earth. In this scenario, Bigfoot could be a species transported by alien visitors, either as a research subject, a worker organism, or even a surviving remnant of an earlier experiment. The creature’s intelligence, strength, and uncanny ability to avoid capture might be explained by a non-terrestrial origin. If Bigfoot is indeed connected to extraterrestrials in this way, UFO sightings near Bigfoot encounters could represent attempts to monitor or recover the creature.

Even ancient stories add intrigue. Across numerous Native American traditions, tales describe both star people and hairy forest beings, sometimes within the same mythological framework. These stories stretch back centuries—long before modern UFO culture or cryptid hunting existed—and might represent cultural memory of phenomena our ancestors witnessed and interpreted in spiritual terms. When multiple cultures across vast distances tell stories that resemble both alien and Bigfoot encounters, the possibility of an ancient connection becomes harder to dismiss outright.

However, skeptics offer a grounded psychological explanation. When someone witnesses one unexplained event—such as a strange light in the sky—they may become hyper-aware of their surroundings and interpret anything unusual as part of the same mystery. A rustling tree, a distant figure, or an odd sound may feed into an already heightened sense of wonder or fear. In this sense, Bigfoot and aliens become linked not because they are connected, but because the human mind tends to weave narratives out of the unknown, grouping mysteries together when confronted with uncertainty.

Whether or not Bigfoot and extraterrestrials truly intersect remains an open question. The connection may be real, symbolic, or purely coincidental. Yet the theory persists because it taps into a deeper curiosity about what lies beyond the limits of ordinary experience. Both Bigfoot and aliens represent the possibility that the world is bigger, stranger, and more mysterious than we expect. They whisper to us from the edges of the forests and the skies, challenging our assumptions about what is possible.

In the end, the correlation between aliens and Bigfoot endures not necessarily because of definitive proof, but because of the enduring human fascination with mysteries too big to solve. Perhaps the connection is not just about the creatures themselves, but about the worlds we imagine between the stars and the shadows. As long as people keep looking upward in wonder and peering into the woods with curiosity, this mystery—like the legends themselves—will never fade...

BIGFOOT ANNOUNCEMENT: PATTERSON FILM IS A HOAX

"It's like losing a friend," one Reddit user wrote after the documentary "Capturing Bigfoot" argued that Roger Patterson and Robert Gimlin's footage of the creature is a hoax.

The Bigfoot community is reeling from a new documentary.

Capturing Bigfoot, a new doc from filmmaker Marq Evans, premiered at SXSW on March 12. The film pulls back the curtain on the infamous 1967 footage of Bigfoot walking through the woods captured by Roger Patterson and Robert Gimlin, which is widely considered one of the key pieces of evidence of the legendary creature's existence among his believers. (If you've ever seen a "real" image of Bigfoot, it probably comes from the Patterson-Gimlin film.)

Capturing Bigfoot, however, argues that the Patterson-Gimlin film was intentionally faked by its creators, as Evans stumbled upon a previously unseen 16mm film featuring a man in a Bigfoot costume and Gimlin riding on a horse. The new footage was seemingly shot a year prior to the Patterson-Gimlin film, leading Evans to believe that the newly discovered footage was a "rehearsal" for the now-iconic later film.

"It took me maybe nine months to realize what we really had," Evans told PEOPLE of the second film, which he received from a colleague whose father was connected to Gimlin and Patterson. "What we eventually found out is that [this new footage] represented a trial run, a rehearsal that was never discarded."

As he investigated the footage, Evans connected with Patterson's son Clint, who wanted to share his perspective on his father's film in an interview.

"He'd learned the film was a fake from his mother years earlier and had been wanting to come out and tell this story," Evans told PEOPLE. "The lie had been really hard on him, and he was ready and wanting to get out from under it."

The filmmaker also said that Patterson's son told him what happened to the Bigfoot suit that was worn in the footage.

"Clint told me that he actually saw his dad burn the suit out behind the family house one night in a big barrel," the director explained. "He basically spent about 30 minutes tossing it into the fire, piece by piece."

Capturing Bigfoot has shaken the faith of many former Bigfoot believers. Joshua Kitakaze, an active member of the online Bigfoot community, told Business Insider that discrediting the original Patterson-Gimlin film has done profound damage to many people's faith in the creature's existence, as that footage was "the No. 1 thing" that believers cited as evidence.

"I never thought this would happen in our lifetime, what Marq Evans has come up with in the documentary," he told the outlet. "For many of us who were believers, whether or not you are now, it just can't be understated that the film was the pillar, that was the cross of this religion."

WHY IS THERE NO BIGFOOT IN HAWAII?

Bigfoot has long been the king of North American folklore, a towering, hairy figure said to roam the misty forests of the Pacific Northwest and the rugged mountains of the Rockies. For decades, blurry photographs and shaky eyewitness accounts have kept the legend alive, fueling endless debates about whether such a creature could exist. But in Hawaii, the silence is deafening. No footprints in volcanic soil, no grainy photos near palm trees, no late-night encounters on jungle trails. Why is Bigfoot absent from paradise?

The answer begins with geography. Hawaii is one of the most isolated landmasses on Earth, sitting more than two thousand miles from the nearest continent. For Bigfoot to reach the islands, it would need to swim across the Pacific or hitch a ride on a canoe—a feat that defies biology and common sense. Unlike species that arrived naturally or were introduced by humans, a giant primate would have no plausible migration route to Hawaii. The ocean is an impenetrable barrier, and Bigfoot, for all its supposed strength, is not a creature built for open-water travel.

Then there is ecology. Hawaii’s ecosystem evolved without large mammals. There are no native bears, wolves, or primates—only birds, insects, and marine life. Bigfoot, often described as a terrestrial omnivore requiring vast forests and abundant prey, would find Hawaii’s environment unsuitable. The islands lack the sprawling temperate forests and large game populations that cryptid enthusiasts claim Bigfoot needs to survive. Even the lush rainforests of Kauai or Maui cannot provide the resources a creature of that size would require.

Culture offers another clue. Hawaiian mythology is rich with supernatural beings—night marchers, Menehune, and spirits tied to the land—but none resemble Bigfoot. If a giant ape-like creature had ever roamed the islands, it would likely appear in oral traditions passed down through generations. Instead, the absence of such legends suggests Bigfoot is a continental myth, not a Pacific one. The stories that haunt Hawaii’s nights belong to its own unique pantheon, not to the forests of Washington or Oregon.

Finally, there is the modern reality. Despite Hawaii’s popularity with tourists and hikers, there are zero credible Bigfoot reports from the islands. In an age of smartphones and social media, the lack of evidence speaks volumes. While Sasquatch enthusiasts argue that Bigfoot is elusive, Hawaii’s compact geography and high human presence make total invisibility improbable. If Bigfoot were here, someone would have seen it, photographed it, or posted about it by now.

So why is there no Bigfoot in Hawaii? Because the islands’ isolation, ecology, and cultural history make it virtually impossible. Bigfoot remains a creature of mainland forests—a phantom of the pines, not the palms. The legend belongs to the misty mountains and endless woodlands of North America, not to the volcanic slopes and tropical beaches of the Pacific. In Hawaii, the only giants are waves, and the only mysteries are those whispered by the ocean...

WHERE ARE THE BONES OF BIGFOOT?

It’s a question that lingers in the minds of skeptics and believers alike. A question whispered around campfires, debated in online forums, and pondered by anyone who’s ever been captivated by the legend of Bigfoot:

Let’s imagine for a moment that Bigfoot does exist — a towering, elusive creature roaming the misty forests of the Pacific Northwest or the shadowy hollows of the Appalachian Mountains. Surely, at some point, one of them must have died. And yet, no skeletons. No skulls. Not even a femur.

So where are they?

Nature has a way of cleaning up after itself. In the wild, death is not a static event — it’s a process. When an animal dies, its body becomes part of the ecosystem almost immediately. Scavengers arrive first, followed by insects, bacteria, and fungi. Within weeks, soft tissue is gone. Within months or years, even bones can break down, especially in damp, acidic soil like that found in many of Bigfoot’s supposed habitats.

It’s not uncommon for hikers to go their entire lives without stumbling across the bones of a bear, a cougar, or even a deer. So if Bigfoot is rare — and perhaps intelligent enough to avoid detection — it’s not so far-fetched to think its remains might vanish without a trace.

Now picture the kind of places Bigfoot is said to inhabit: vast, rugged, and remote. These are not your average hiking trails. We’re talking about deep wilderness — places where GPS signals fade and human footprints are few and far between.

If a Bigfoot were to die in such a place, the odds of someone finding its remains are astronomically low. And even if someone did stumble upon a bone or two, would they recognize it for what it was? Or would it be mistaken for a bear, a moose, or simply left behind?

Over the years, there have been countless claims of Bigfoot hair, scat, and even blood. But none have held up under scientific scrutiny. DNA tests usually come back as bear, human, or inconclusive. Without bones or fossils, science has nothing solid to work with — and that’s a problem for those hoping to prove Bigfoot’s existence. Skeptics argue that this lack of physical evidence is the strongest case against Bigfoot. After all, how could a species — especially one so large — leave behind no trace of its dead?

And then there are the whispers. The stories that suggest someone knows the truth — and is hiding it. Some believe governments or shadowy organizations are suppressing evidence of Bigfoot to avoid public panic, protect the creature, or for reasons more mysterious still. There’s no proof of such cover-ups, of course. But in the world of cryptids, the absence of evidence often fuels the fire rather than extinguishing it.

In the end, the mystery of Bigfoot’s missing bones might be exactly what keeps the legend alive. It’s the unanswered questions, the what-ifs, the tantalizing possibility that just beyond the next ridge, something ancient and unknown still walks among the trees.

And maybe — just maybe — the bones are out there, waiting to be found...

MYSTERIOUS CREATURES: PENNSYLVANIA

Monsters. Creatures. Unexplained animals. People report them in the forest all the time. Though they go by several names, the most all-inclusive one is “cryptids.” The field of discovering them is known as cryptozoology. And for anyone interested in cryptozoology, Pennsylvania is an excellent place. Not only are there a lot of sightings but the sheer variety of creatures is impressive.

No matter what area of the state you’re in, there’s some sort of local cryptid to watch for. They range from the popular to the obscure, all of them on a scale of more-or-less likely to exist, though none of them have yet been proven.

BIGFOOT

Arguably the most well-known cryptid is Bigfoot, who clearly loves the attention, and Pennsylvania is no stranger to Bigfoot sightings. One of the likely areas to spot Bigfoot is near the border of Centre and Clinton Counties.

“I saw something in Beech Creek in February of 2023,” said Sonia Rodriguez, of Clinton County. “It was huge, maybe 10 feet tall.”

While Rodriguez was driving home from work, she spotted the shape of what may have been Bigfoot, thrown into relief by the local streetlights. She described it as very clearly defined, not blurry, and of an impressive size.

“I see this dark silhouette,” she said. “It took two steps, and I was shocked. It was huge! I was like, all panicking.”

Bigfoot has repeatedly been spotted in that area, including multiple sightings in Bald Eagle State Park, because Bigfoot enjoys a recreational campout as much as anyone else.

THE SQUONK

The Squonk is a uniquely Pennsylvania cryptid, first appearing in the 1910 book “Fearsome Creatures of the Lumberwoods.” Described as an ugly pig-like creature living in the hemlock forests, the Squonk cries almost continuously. The Squonk was said to have emigrated from a desert area to Pennsylvania, and avoids people, because it knows how ugly it is. If you happen to see a Squonk while hiking, stop and give the poor thing a hug. It needs one.

GIWOGGLE

Clinton County has an official monster, and its name is the Giwoggle. The Giwoggle was from rural legends told by Belle Confer of Keating Township to her grandchildren. One of them, George Rhone, grew up to write these in “Keystone Folklore Quarterly” in 1956.

A werewolf-like creature, the Giwoggle had the hands of a bird and the feet of a horse, confusing anyone attempting to track it. According to the legends, they could be conjured by the local witches and were seen throughout Clinton and Clearfield Counties.

In July of 2011, the Clinton County Commissioners decreed the Giwoggle to be the official monster of the county. Not that there was a whole lot of competition.

THE JERSEY DEVIL

The Jersey Devil? But this is an article about Pennsylvania cryptids! What’s a creature from New Jersey doing here?

The Jersey Devil, a flying monster sighted in New Jersey, has been known to travel into Pennsylvania occasionally. In 1909, it was reportedly seen in Williamsport and Lock Haven.

On January 28, 1909, the Clinton Democrat reported that the Jersey Devil had been seen in Williamsport. The article said,”The footprints appear in the snow in the rear yard of a West Fourth Street residence, first on one side of the tennis net and then the other. It is reported that the same mysterious tracks were discovered on the golf links north of the city.”

A few days later, the Lock Haven Express reported that the Jersey Devil had been spotted on the roof of a Grove Street house by resident Charles Poorman, who later propped a ladder up and allowed people to see the tracks in the snow on his roof. The Express reported,”Several persons have again come forward with statements that they saw this strange creature, which has sent terror into the hearts of the timid.” And it just goes to show that even the Jersey Devil prefers Pennsylvania to New Jersey sometimes.

THE POTTER

One of the most obscure cryptids was said to inhabit southern Potter County, according to articles in the “Potter Enterprise” in the spring of 1897. Described as a hairy, bipedal creature about six feet tall, it was said to have tusks that measured six or seven inches long.

“It is also reported that a fisherman was run out of Nelson Run by some kind of animal,” reported the Enterprise on April 12. “The animal stood upon its hind feet and struck its breast with its forepaws, causing a noise like a roll of many drums, and screamed like a panther.”

Later, resident William Butler had come forward with information. The newspaper said, “Though under the circumstances his eyes might have magnified a little, he thinks the animal was fully six feet high when standing on its hind legs. It was quite hairy about the head and had tusks from six to seven inches long, which the animal seemed proud to show, and another such mouth was never seen.”

The newspaper gave the creature its name, stating, “Bill looked at the Potter County Nondescript fully a minute or more.”

BIGFOOT SIGHTINGS IN WEST VIRGINA

Many West Virginians believe the woods and mountains are home to cryptids such as Mothman or the Flatwoods Monster. So, it is no surprise that Mountain State residents have also reported possible Bigfoot sightings over the years.

The Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization documents reported sightings in each state. According to the data, the three West Virginia counties with the most Bigfoot sightings are Pendleton, Randolph and Pocahontas.

In Pendleton County, there are 14 Bigfoot sightings reported. The first was in November 1994 when cave explorers had bizarre experiences while camping in the Seneca Creek backcountry. The most recent was in November 2012 when hunters said they possibly heard voices and saw a large head peaking behind boulders near Franklin.

There are 10 reported Bigfoot sightings in Randolph County. In November 1989, two people first reported seeing the creature while they were hunting in treestands near Elkwater. Most recently in the county, a fisherman said he saw Bigfoot about six miles from Elkins in July 2017.

Eight Bigfoot sightings have been reported in Pocahontas County. The first was a daylight sighting reported by a person deer hunting near the Greenbrier River in November 1969. The most recent was a September 2016 report from motorists traveling near the Cranberry Mountain Nature Center.

There are two sightings reported in Kanawha County, which is home to the capital city of Charleston. The first was a Summer 1990 report from a man who said he saw a large, hairy creature near a Marmet cemetery. The second report was from a deer hunter who believed he saw Bigfoot near Cabin Creek in November 2009.

People have also reported possible sightings in many other areas of West Virginia. Sightings and evidence, including footprints and casts, are reported statewide, with a concentration in Braxton County, particularly near Sutton Lake. The state's mountain regions are rich with local legends, such as the "old man of the mountain" and the 1919 Flatwoods Monster sighting, further contributing to its reputation as a Bigfoot hotspot...

BIGFOOT: KNOWING FACT FROM FICTION

Of course with real genuine Bigfoot stories, there's bound to be people attempting to make up fake ones to stir up buzz. What are some things in sightings/encounter stories that make you think their fake? Here are some of the items I have run across with studying and researching the Bigfoot mystery through the years.

I won’t discount people’s experiences, but I immediately tune out when people start talking about telepathy or them walking in and out of this dimension.

I’m personally of the mind that they’re flesh and blood creatures if they are real or have existed in the past. I heard Les Stroud once, I think on Sasquatch Chronicles, talk about how one was telepathically communicating with him that it was sleeping. I’m not saying that wasn’t his experience, but it honestly made him sound a little insane versus the times I’ve heard him tell stories about hearing hoots and howls in remote places.

People sometimes report orbs and lights…those don’t turn me off as much but I’m not sure they’re Sasquatch related. There are definitely some strange things out in the deep forests. I’m not sure we understand it all, but I don’t think it necessarily means it’s all connected.

I usually get very sus when there is a video that begins and ends for no reason. So you're filming a legendary creature for several seconds and you just hit 'stop' for no reason whatsoever? It's literally right there, non-threatening, and 50+ yards away walking away from you in open terrain....and you stop recording for no reason? You might have something to rival the Patterson-Gimlin film... and you decide to just magically stop recording for no reason

Another thing that's always suspect are random solitary pictures of an alledged Bigfoot, but there is no lead up to the picture, what you were doing or the Bigfoot doing that led up to the snap shot. Yes you may have a legit pic, but no lead up info to your picture is bad faith 99.9% of the time.

For me, it's usually when the story seemingly gets more elaborate and outrageous the longer the storyteller talks. Like in a podcast episode I listened to recently, a man claimed he saw a female and a young one from 100-150 yards away while sitting with his back to a boulder (in Idaho?). Then the male appeared out of the trees, saw the "witness", crossed the 150 yards in a few seconds, and cornered him against the boulder, where they had a face to face staring contest. During the staring contest it blinked in code at him so he blinked back in that same code and they kept staring and it kept turning its head side to side... and I turned the podcast off. I can only appreciate a creative writing project in the correct context.

Is Bigfoot real or fake and will we ever know the truth...

THE DYATLOV PASS INCIDENT - PART TWO

One of the more popular explanations for what happened at Dyatlov Pass is that the team heard the rumblings of an oncoming avalanche and panicked, cutting their way out of the tent and scrambling down the hill without putting on heavier clothes.

The main problem with this theory is that there has never been evidence of an avalanche occurring at this location. There’s also the fact that the footprints found near the camp were not buried under any snow. And the footprints also indicate that those who left the tent did so in an orderly and slow fashion.

Another group of hikers that were in the vicinity of the Dyatlov Nine reported seeing odd orange spheres in the sky on the night of the incident. Russian police officer Lev Ivanov, who led the investigation in 1959, finally revealed in 1990 that members of his team had also seen strange flying spheres around the time of the deaths. Ivanov wrote that he had orders to never discuss the sightings:

"When E. P. Maslennikov and I examined the scene in May, we found that some young pine trees at the edge of the forest had burn marks, but those marks did not have a concentric form or some other pattern. There was no epicenter. This once again confirmed that heated beams of a strong, but completely unknown, at least to us, energy, were directing their firepower toward specific objects (in this case, people), acting selectively."

It has been speculated that these strange balls of light were either alien spacecraft (the crazy explanation) or Russian military aircraft on covert bombing missions.

A once-popular theory that had floated around regarding the Dyatlov Pass Incident was that they hikers were attacked by indigenous Mansi tribesmen for trespassing on sacred ground.

This theory has been discredited for several reasons: There were no footprints to indicate anyone besides the hikers had occupied the area on the night they died.

At the time of the hikers’ deaths, no crimes had been committed in the area for three decades.

The blunt force trauma that killed three of the hikers required power far beyond the capability of any humans.

Robbery had been ruled out as a motive since the campers’ belongings remained untouched inside their tent.

A wind phenomenon known as a “Karman vortex street,” caused by fierce winds blowing over specifically shaped geological structures, can cause very low-vibration sound frequencies called “infrasound” that is known to cause fear and irrational dread in humans. As the theory goes, an infrasound blast disoriented the campers to the point where they cut themselves and ran out of their own tent in a panic, only to freeze to death in the dark as they attempted to make their way back.

The problem with this theory is that there is no documentation of a Karman vortex street ever causing humans to act so irrationally that they’ll run half-naked down a snow-covered slope to escape it. Plus, a sound blast doesn’t explain the blunt-force trauma to three of the bodies.

In 2014 the Discovery Channel aired a film called Russian Yeti: The Killer Lives. It attempted to explain that the hiking team suffered a fatal encounter with the Abominable Snowman due to the fact that one of the victims had a missing tongue and also based on a blurry photo shortly before everyone died that shows a shadowy figure peeking out near a tree.

The problem with this theory is that the picture could have been of one of the hikers. And any kind of wildlife predator could have eaten the girl’s tongue during the three months it took searchers to finally locate her corpse.

There’s all that, plus the fact that there is no evidence that the Abominable Snowman, the Yeti, or Bigfoot—whatever you want to call that hairy, smelly predator¬—has ever existed outside the realm of legend.

We may never know what happened to these hikers in Russia in 1959, and it's sad to think of their sad deaths, but something was going on there that is yet another mystery....

TWO BIGFOOT HUNTERS FOUND DEAD

Two men from Oregon who went missing after going on a search for Sasquatch have been found dead, Washington state officials announced Saturday.

The men, both from Portland, were reported missing by a family member on Christmas Day and were set to return from searching for the legendary creature in eastern Skamania County on Christmas Eve, according to the county sheriff's office.

A search was launched and a vehicle associated with the two men was found off a road near Willard, Wash.

After a three-day search involving more than 60 people, the bodies of both men, 37 and 59 years old, were found in Gifford Pinchot National Forest, located in the southwestern part of Washington state, in a heavily wooded area, according to the Skamania County Sheriff's Office.

Their cause of death appears to be because of "exposure, based on weather conditions and ill-preparedness," the sheriff's office said.

The area had faced rounds of snow and rain with temperatures in the 30s across the Cascades in the days leading up to the men being reported missing. The search for the men also took place amid "difficult terrain and harsh weather conditions" as crews faced conditions such as "freezing temperatures, snow, high water levels," law enforcement said.

Sasquatch, commonly known as "Bigfoot," is a large, hairy figure that resembles a human and is thought to live in northwestern parts of the U.S. and Canada. The existence of Bigfoot has been debated for decades and many have reported sightings of the creature. More than 700 reports of Bigfoot sightings in Washington state have been submitted to the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization, the group says.

In Skamania County, harming Bigfoot is punishable by a $1,000 fine and can include jail time, according to the county's chamber of commerce — a law meant to protect the mysterious creature and to prevent hunters with large beards from accidentally getting shot...

BIGFOOT SIGHTINGS IN PITTSBURGH

My hometown is Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and while Pittsburgh does not have the dense forests of the Northwest, there are some beautiful forests here. Those forests and areas still have had their share of Bigfoot sightings through the years...

July 9, 2011 at 10:30 am in the Chartiers Creek near Boyce Rd in the South Hills of Pittsburgh:

A couple was canoeing down the creek when they claim they heard a loud growl/scream about 50 to 100 yards further down stream from them. They decided to return to their car and leave the area. They stopped to rest at a rocky bank of the creek and the woman stated she heard a grunt. They found footprint impressions in the soft muddy creek bank that measured around 15 inches long.

August 15, 2009 Sewickly Heights early morning hours:

Witness contacts Eric Altman by phone claiming he discovered large muddy footprints measuring over 21 inches long and 9 inches wide on a paved road in Sewickely Township in Allegheny County while out on a morning jog. He followed the prints and they led off the road and into the woods. Witness was called twice to meet with him and did not reply to messages left.

January 28, 2006 Allison Park Allegheny County PA:

Two men taking a break at the family business watch a tall hair covered creature run down a hillside and cross the creek. They are only 200 feet away from the creature. They describe the animal as tall, covered in brown hair, massive build and extremely fast. The animal disappears from sight in a matter of minutes. While investigating the area for Evidence, Dr. Paul Johnson is approached by a third witness. The witness tells Dr. Johnson, he is a hospital physician at the local area hospital. He was on his way home for lunch, driving by the hillside, when he saw a large dark colored, hair covered creature running up the hillside Into a wooded area. The Doctor goes on to tell Dr. Johnson that he continues to drive the same road home to and from work every day in Hopes of catching another glimpse of the creature. The three witnesses never heard of, nor believed in Bigfoot before the sightings.

August 15, 2004 near McCandless, PA:

While on a leisurely walk through the woods four witnesses when my cousin, Michael saw a hair covered creature laying on the ground about 60ft away from them. The creature was not very large, maybe 4 to 5ft tall with reddish-brown fur over all of its body. No ears could be plainly seen on it. No further information was provided in the report.

Spring of 1990 near Shaler:

Young boys discovered what they believed to be two deer killed by a Bigfoot at the top of a steep ravine. Two very fresh deer carcasses were poorly stowed up under some undergrowth. The adult doe had three broken legs, one of the rear legs almost completely twisted off. The fawn had an obvious broken back. At the time we never thought of a Bigfoot related deer kill. Years later (about 3 years ago) one of the witnesses stumbled across an article on Bigfoot and deer kills. Before seeing the photos we knew that what we found that day matched exactly what the article described. The boys did go back (shortly after-- possibly same day) to the "scene of the crime" to come up with a better explanation but the carcasses were gone - no drag marks, blood, etc.. Aside from the broken bones, there were no evident wounds on either deer; definitely not a dog-kill...

WELCOME!

Welcome to this new blog! I decided to call this site The Unexplained News Archive, because we will dedicate these pages to the unxplained mysteries of our society - UFOs, Bigfoot, Loch Ness Monster, The Mothman, and even some conspiracy theories. Even though I will be running this blog, make it your own. Send me new articles, personal accounts, and what ever you want to share.

Maybe by joining forces we can make a discovery so something that was unexplained may not be anymore.

Thanks and welcome!
