TWO BIGFOOT HUNTERS FOUND DEAD

Two men from Oregon who went missing after going on a search for Sasquatch have been found dead, Washington state officials announced Saturday.

The men, both from Portland, were reported missing by a family member on Christmas Day and were set to return from searching for the legendary creature in eastern Skamania County on Christmas Eve, according to the county sheriff's office.

A search was launched and a vehicle associated with the two men was found off a road near Willard, Wash.

After a three-day search involving more than 60 people, the bodies of both men, 37 and 59 years old, were found in Gifford Pinchot National Forest, located in the southwestern part of Washington state, in a heavily wooded area, according to the Skamania County Sheriff's Office.

Their cause of death appears to be because of "exposure, based on weather conditions and ill-preparedness," the sheriff's office said.

The area had faced rounds of snow and rain with temperatures in the 30s across the Cascades in the days leading up to the men being reported missing. The search for the men also took place amid "difficult terrain and harsh weather conditions" as crews faced conditions such as "freezing temperatures, snow, high water levels," law enforcement said.

Sasquatch, commonly known as "Bigfoot," is a large, hairy figure that resembles a human and is thought to live in northwestern parts of the U.S. and Canada. The existence of Bigfoot has been debated for decades and many have reported sightings of the creature. More than 700 reports of Bigfoot sightings in Washington state have been submitted to the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization, the group says.

In Skamania County, harming Bigfoot is punishable by a $1,000 fine and can include jail time, according to the county's chamber of commerce — a law meant to protect the mysterious creature and to prevent hunters with large beards from accidentally getting shot...

THE DISAPPEARANCE OF JANET WALSH

Janet Ann Walsh was a sweet lady as described by people who knew her. She lived alone in a small two-bedroom one bathroom house right outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

On January 19, 2020, Janet Walsh woke up, got herself ready, and went to her local church for services. Afterwards, she, her daughter Erin, and her son-in-law all went out to lunch. While Janet’s husband, Thomas had died in November of 2019 of an apparent suicide, Janet seemed to be in good-spirits and adjusting well. Her family denied she had any health issues.

On January 20, 2020, Janet and her daughter were scheduled to have dinner together at Janet’s home but when her daughter arrived around 5:00 PM, Janet and her car were no where to be found. Janet’s cell phone was found upstairs. Her daughter waited for a few hours for Janet to return and began calling Janet’s friends to see if she was with them, but ultimately called the police at 8:30 PM to report her mother missing. They arrived at the 100 block of Dolores Drive in Shaler, Pennsylvania and began to gather information and clues.

According to the police, Janet had last been seen the day before, January 19, 2020, at her local church. On either the day she went missing or the day before, she had canceled a therapy appointment scheduled for January 20, 2020. It is not clear what type of therapy this was, whether physical therapy, occupational therapy, or therapy for a mental health issue. Given that her husband had passed away only in November, I wouldn’t be surprised if she was seeing a counselor.

After about a week, the local police turned the investigation over to the Allegheny County Police Department (“ACPD”). No further evidence was found to help explain why or how Janet disappeared.

In 2021, the police gave a press conference to reflect the one-year anniversary of her disappearance. The officer admitted there was no new information but wanted to remind everybody of what Janet looked like and what her car looked like and for people to keep their eyes opened. In that press conference, the officer stated that the GPS location via OnStar from her car had not been available since Sunday which is why they were focusing on the water. A representative from OnStar noted that when a signal is not received from a vehicle, it is because of poor reception, so for example, the car is in a parking garage, has a thick forest canopy overhead, or is in water. The officer stated that help had been provided by the US Army Corp of Engineers from Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh River Rescue Unit and that parts of the Allegheny River had been searched four or five times, but nothing had been found. He stated that future plans to search the River had already been put into place, but they were waiting for the weather to cooperate.

Janet is described as being a 70-year-old Caucasian women with strawberry blonde hair and hazel eyes. She is 5’3” tall, 170-300 pounds, and uses a walker or cane to aid in her mobility. She owned a silver and black 2018 Chevrolet Trax SUV with license plate number KTW-6007.

On July 21, 2024, her body was found in a car in the Allegheny River close to wear she lived (a few miles down the river). I didn't initially think it was suicide, but it seems she drove all the way to river access in Oakmont, which is pretty intentional. For those not familiar with the area, she had to cross the river, drive down a road that is pretty much just access to Verona/Oakmont and points beyond (there are very few businesses or turnoffs from Allegheny River Boulevard due to it being sandwiched between the river and a large hill), and turn off the main road in Oakmont to a specific river access area. I suppose she could also have been disoriented and trying to visit an area she had been familiar with in the past. There are a lot of people in her demographic that live in that part of Oakmont - I wonder if she had any connection? How Janet ended up in the river is still unknown...

BIGFOOT SIGHTINGS IN PITTSBURGH

My hometown is Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and while Pittsburgh does not have the dense forests of the Northwest, there are some beautiful forests here. Those forests and areas still have had their share of Bigfoot sightings through the years...

July 9, 2011 at 10:30 am in the Chartiers Creek near Boyce Rd in the South Hills of Pittsburgh:

A couple was canoeing down the creek when they claim they heard a loud growl/scream about 50 to 100 yards further down stream from them. They decided to return to their car and leave the area. They stopped to rest at a rocky bank of the creek and the woman stated she heard a grunt. They found footprint impressions in the soft muddy creek bank that measured around 15 inches long.

August 15, 2009 Sewickly Heights early morning hours:

Witness contacts Eric Altman by phone claiming he discovered large muddy footprints measuring over 21 inches long and 9 inches wide on a paved road in Sewickely Township in Allegheny County while out on a morning jog. He followed the prints and they led off the road and into the woods. Witness was called twice to meet with him and did not reply to messages left.

January 28, 2006 Allison Park Allegheny County PA:

Two men taking a break at the family business watch a tall hair covered creature run down a hillside and cross the creek. They are only 200 feet away from the creature. They describe the animal as tall, covered in brown hair, massive build and extremely fast. The animal disappears from sight in a matter of minutes. While investigating the area for Evidence, Dr. Paul Johnson is approached by a third witness. The witness tells Dr. Johnson, he is a hospital physician at the local area hospital. He was on his way home for lunch, driving by the hillside, when he saw a large dark colored, hair covered creature running up the hillside Into a wooded area. The Doctor goes on to tell Dr. Johnson that he continues to drive the same road home to and from work every day in Hopes of catching another glimpse of the creature. The three witnesses never heard of, nor believed in Bigfoot before the sightings.

August 15, 2004 near McCandless, PA:

While on a leisurely walk through the woods four witnesses when my cousin, Michael saw a hair covered creature laying on the ground about 60ft away from them. The creature was not very large, maybe 4 to 5ft tall with reddish-brown fur over all of its body. No ears could be plainly seen on it. No further information was provided in the report.

Spring of 1990 near Shaler:

Young boys discovered what they believed to be two deer killed by a Bigfoot at the top of a steep ravine. Two very fresh deer carcasses were poorly stowed up under some undergrowth. The adult doe had three broken legs, one of the rear legs almost completely twisted off. The fawn had an obvious broken back. At the time we never thought of a Bigfoot related deer kill. Years later (about 3 years ago) one of the witnesses stumbled across an article on Bigfoot and deer kills. Before seeing the photos we knew that what we found that day matched exactly what the article described. The boys did go back (shortly after-- possibly same day) to the "scene of the crime" to come up with a better explanation but the carcasses were gone - no drag marks, blood, etc.. Aside from the broken bones, there were no evident wounds on either deer; definitely not a dog-kill...

MY GHOST ENCOUNTER

I have had a few paranormal experiences, but probably the most profound one was one that my wife experienced. From 2000 to 2007, I lived in an apartment complex that was a converted grade school.  When I got married in 2004 my wife moved in. Shortly before we moved my wife saw a black figure run into the back room but no one was there. My wife by the way is a non believer, and is not the type to fly off the handle and get scared, but she was freaked out.

Fast forward to 2014ish. I was just googling and I found an old newspaper about the school. Our apartment was where the school boiler room was. The boiler exploded in 1954, and the janitor ran to his office to get away from the explosion but was killed. I found a picture of the police investigating the explosion in the area that was our living room! It still gives me chills!

Here is the original story:

Here are investigators at the scene in 1954. They are standing at what was the entrance to our apartment:

Whether our old apartment was haunted or not is not known, but my wife insists to this day she saw a black figure. The way this figure ran in the apartment is the exact way the janitor ran as the boiler exploded. Looking back, if there was a shadowy figure, it must have something to do with the poor janitor that was killed there decades ago...

JACKIE GLEASON AND UFOS

Orson Welles coined the name "The Great One" for Jackie Gleason, and Welles had good reason to. During his career, Gleason not only was a television icon, but he also made his mark in movies and the recording industry as well. Anything Gleason is involved in, whether good or bad, was worth taking note of. In his personal life, Gleason tackled everything with the same gusto as he did in his career. Even his hobbies, he tackled with highly concentrated interest. One of those hobbies may be surprising to some and that is Gleason's interest in UFOs.

Gleason was an extremely serious armchair UFO researcher and prided himself on his huge collection of UFO-related books, which numbered into the thousands. As soon as a new title came out, even in Europe or the UK, Jackie had a copy. Little did he suspect that his interest in that topic would one day gain him access to something that most people would never even believe and would leave others who shared his interests either skeptical or forever jealous.

It was a chance conversation one afternoon, back in 1974 in Florida, while Jackie was playing golf with one of his regular partners, President Richard Nixon. Jackie had mentioned his interest in UFOs and his large collection of books, and the president admitted that he also shared Jackie's interest and had a sizeable collection of UFO-oriented materials of his own. At the time, the president said little about what he actually knew, but things were to change drastically later on that same night.

One can only imagine Gleason's surprise when President Nixon showed up at his house around midnight, completely alone and driving his own private car. When Jackie asked him why he was there, Nixon told him that he wanted to take him somewhere and show him something. He got into the president's car, and they ended up at the gates of Homestead Air Force Base. They passed through security and drove to the far end of the base, to a tightly guarded building.

At this point, I will quote directly from Gleason himself, from an interview he gave to UFO researcher and author Larry Warren:

"We drove to the very far end of the base in a segregated area, finally stopping near a well-guarded building. The security police saw us coming and just sort of moved back as we passed them and entered the structure. There were a number of labs we passed through first before we entered a section where Nixon pointed out what he said was the wreckage from a flying saucer, enclosed in several large cases. Next, we went into an inner chamber and there were six or eight of what looked like glass-topped Coke freezers. Inside them were the mangled remains of what I took to be children. Then - upon closer examination - I saw that some of the other figures looked quite old. Most of them were terribly mangled as if they had been in an accident."

Gleason was understandably excited by all of this, but also quite traumatized, and said he couldn't eat or sleep properly for weeks afterwards and found himself drinking heavily until he was able to regain his composure. His wife at the time, Beverly, recalls him being out very late that night and speaking excitedly about what he had seen when he returned home. Later on, however, when she and Gleason were splitting up and she told the story to a writer at Esquire Magazine, which printed it in an article, relations between her and the entertainer deteriorated and Gleason became very upset and angry that the story had been made public. For this reason, many people, including Beverly herself, have wondered at the truth of the story. However, in his interview with Larry Warren, who was invited to Jackie's house in person because Gleason wanted to hear firsthand about Warren's experience at Bentwaters Air Force Base in England, it was clear that Jackie was being honest and sincere:

"You could tell that he was very sincere - he took the whole affair very seriously, and I could tell that he wanted to get the matter off his chest, and that was why he was telling me all of this. Jackie felt just like I do, that the government needs to 'come clean,' and tell us all it knows about space visitors. It's time they stopped lying to the public and release all the evidence they have. When they do, then we'll all be able to see the same things the late Jackie Gleason did."

For a long time, the incident affected Gleason. Looking back, his professional output in the mid 1970s suddenly slowed down, which would be the same time he visited the site with President Nixon. Whether or not aliens have visited this planet is another story for another blog, but what I find interesting is the interests of these classic Hollywood stars. Here is Jackie Gleason, The Great One, looking up in the sky and wondering what is out there. It shows that despite Gleason's involvement in show business, he was indeed a renaissance man with a lot of other fascinating interests...

VIDEO BREAK: THE TRUCKER'S WIFE

FAA BANS DRONES IN PARTS OF NEW JERSEY

The Federal Aviation Administration issued a ban on drone operations in dozens of areas of New Jersey and New York until mid-January, unless operators are granted special permission from the government due to "special security reasons."

Uncrewed aerial drones have been lighting up the sky at night in New Jersey and nearby states for weeks, since about mid-November, leading to concern from residents and speculation online. Some had demanded answers from local and state officials for answers.

"At the request of federal security partners, the FAA published 22 Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs) prohibiting drone flights over critical New Jersey infrastructure," the FAA said in a statement Thursday.

The temporary flight restrictions in New Jersey, which are set to last until Jan. 17, have been implemented beginning Wednesday in the following locations: Hamilton, Bridgewater, Cedar Grove, North Brunswick, Metuchen, Evesham, Camden, Gloucester City, Westampton, South Brunswick, Edison, Branchburg, Sewaren, Jersey City, Harrison, Elizabeth, Bayonne, Winslow, Burlington, Clifton, Hancocks Bridge and Kearny.

A Department of Homeland Security spokesperson said the flight restrictions were issued "out of an abundance of caution."

"We continue to assess there is no public safety threat relating to the reported drone sightings," the spokesperson said in a statement Thursday. "In coordination with the FAA and our critical infrastructure partners who requested temporary flight restrictions over their facilities, out of an abundance of caution, the FAA has issued temporary flight restrictions over some critical infrastructure facilities in New Jersey."

Following New Jersey's lead, on Thursday night, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul announced federal partners and the FAA will also grant temporary flight restrictions over some of the state's critical infrastructure sites.

Similarly, Hochul said the action is "purely precautionary" and that "there are no threats to these sites."

WELCOME!

Welcome to this new blog! I decided to call this site The Unexplained News Archive, because we will dedicate these pages to the unxplained mysteries of our society - UFOs, Bigfoot, Loch Ness Monster, The Mothman, and even some conspiracy theories. Even though I will be running this blog, make it your own. Send me new articles, personal accounts, and what ever you want to share.

Maybe by joining forces we can make a discovery so something that was unexplained may not be anymore.

Thanks and welcome!
